‘beaver workshop’ office is an innovative work space tailored for a film and media company designed by it is located in a business park for creative industries, which was transformed from a concrete factory, in chaoyang district, beijing. the original space was a single-story truss-structured warehouse, containing three spans, with net height 6 meters and ridge height 9 meters. the client expects to double the usable area by adding an interlayer, thus fulfilling the functional requirements of animation, art, screenwriting, directing, producing, and logistics sections. the usable area was expanded by inserting a multi-opening box which occupies more than half of the site containing an atrium and all the inward rooms like independent offices, meeting rooms, rehearsal room, and logistical spaces. the flow outside the structure is left for open workspace. the client wanted to create a flexible, interactive, equal, and fun atmosphere to inspire employees’ creativity...

shigeru ban completes combined restaurant and residential building in tokyo    residential building. the wooden 3-storey structure occupies a prominent corner plot in toyko, along a walkway populated with cherry blossom trees. cross laminated timber has been used for the scheme’s columns and beams, ensuring large open spaces, without the need for internal supports   tubes to bring a sense of warmth and hospitality to the restaurant, complementing the surrounding wooden structure. different dining areas are provided beneath the undulating ceiling. fully retractable openings allowing the eating area to extend out onto an external terrace, offering guests the chance to dine outdoors. the two levels above contain apartments, with the structural system again ensuring the potential for flexible internal layouts   the wooden building is located along a walkway populated with cherry blossom trees image by hiroyuki hirai   openings al...

this coffeeshop located in the karlín district, part of the concept drew influence from the local, well known electrical engineer – františek křižík. the electrical concept merged with the idea of connecting through good coffee and delicious food. the main bar wall, made of white perforated plywood, creates a grid, which all the components on the wall connect to – from the sliding targets of wires to the paper roll with a daily menu. a network of wires, stretching from the switches to behind the counter to the lights above the tables, strengthens this theme of connection between staff and guests     instead of concealing the electrical components, each of the lights are exposed and operate separately. the location of the switches on the wall grid reflects the real position of the accompanying light located in the room; they automatically turn on and off as guests come and go. every time the door opens, it illuminates a position in the bistro. in te...
