ANA house’ is kochi architect’s studio most recent interior continuing the firms’ approach of separating the residence into asymmetric plywood planes ( apartment house, 2014 ) and distinguishing each space with vibrant color. inhabited by a family of four in suburban tokyo , the site of ANA house is compact and small. in spite of this, the interior is separated into a ‘patchwork of rooms’, where the living accommodation is divided across the two subsequent storeys this method devised by kochi architect’s studio influences the creation of new sightlines among the home’s various volumes and establishes an illusion of a larger space. by using 7 colors of paint to emphasize the difference between each rooms, a graphic quality is created reminiscent of cubist paintings. to give the home density, this innovative method can be used to fully maximize a compact floorplan especially in japan’s rapidly expanding cities with the dining room being placed at the center of ...
